Dalton Ghetti
Even as a child, Dalton Ghetti sharpened his pencils with a knife. Then he began carving names in the wood, and later carving tiny sculptures in the lead points. Over the past 25 years he has created over 100 such works from pencil points. The fragile sculptures are created over a period of months or even years. His tools are a needle, a razor blade, and a simple knife. He never needs a magnifying glass.
Dalton Ghetti says that for him, pencil-point sculpting is a relaxing and meditative evening activity. His mini-sculptures can be admired at exhibitions, but they cannot be bought.
Dalton Ghetti was born and raised in Brazil. In 1985 he moved to the USA, where he earned an architecture degree from Norwalk Community Technical College in Connecticut. Today he makes his living in Connecticut as a carpenter, remodeling and modernizing homes.
Dalton Ghetti is currently working on a project dedicated to the victims of the 9/11 attack. He is carving over 3,000 tears from pencil leads, one teardrop for each victim. The thousands of tiny tears will be arranged to form one large teardrop.
